From High-Tech To Real Life: How Revware Products Literally Reshape Your World

PRESS RELEASE – Movie Animation, Automobiles, Reconstructive Surgery: Revware Can Reshape Anything

RALEIGH, N.C., (March 24, 2011) – Revware Inc., the leading developer of CAD-driven concept-to-product engineering software and manufacturer of the MicroScribe® portable measurement system for touch and laser digitizing solutions, today released information on its 2011 product line-up. For those unfamiliar with Revware, the company behind the MicroScribe®, MobiGage® and RevWorks® software solutions for metrology professionals, the company is launching an educational campaign to highlight the many attributes and real-world applications of its innovative product portfolio. The goal of the educational campaign is to showcase how Revware’s products touch consumers’ everyday lives.

“Our mission is to provide simple to use, innovative, cost-effective modeling solutions to help solve a wide range of design, metrology and engineering problems. At this moment, it’s likely that you have been touched by or own a product whose development was improved by the use of a Revware product,” said Tom Welsh, President and CEO of Revware. “From the creation and manufacturing of household tools, shoes, aircraft and industrial components, automotive parts and musical instruments, to virtual renderings of lifelike animated characters, imaging ancient artifacts and conducting joint replacement surgery, Revware products are reshaping your world every day.”

Revware’s cornerstone product is the MicroScribe portable digitizer, which is used in combination with commercial or proprietary software to capture physical forms for modeling and analysis. The MicroScribe digitizer is used as a point-to-point, edge-to-edge data collection tool or an alignment tracker for attached laser scanners or other types of sensing devices. This desktop system comes in two versions, the general purpose MicroScribe G series and the higher accuracy MicroScribe M series. Each series offers two working volumes, 50” and 66” and comes with either five (5) or six (6) degrees of freedom. The six degree of freedom (6DoF) systems add a rotating stylus appropriate for the attachment of laser scanners and other sensing devices.

Software fashions the MicroScribe digitizer into a tool that is specific to your work. There are many commercially available software packages that support the MicroScribe digitizer line. Revware’s own RevWorks software makes the connection between the MicroScribe digitizer and SolidWorks® solid modeling CAD software, providing the CAD user with the software tools necessary to manage the digitizer and directly collect feature data in real-time. It is the combination of the MicroScribe digitizer and RevWorks software that shortens the time it takes to generate computer models, allowing users to reduce product development time and get the job completed much more quickly. Revware’s products can be used to capture physical parts, develop prototypes, recreate one-of-a-kind objects, measure, inspect and analyze. From assisting with the design animation of the blockbuster hit Shrek to engineering aftermarket automotive parts for vehicles like BMW, Revware products have endless possibilities and applications.

The newest addition to the Revware software offerings is MobiGage®, the first hand-held metrology application. As a “mobile gauge”, MobiGage can be installed on an iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone and uses wireless network communication to correspond with a MicroScribe digitizer. Measurements can be captured easily and quickly following a repeatable measurement plan for later use with RevWorks or other software solutions. For non-Apple consumers, MobiGage PC, a companion product for standard personal computer users, is also available.

This year, Revware has continued to bring innovative data capture technology to market by becoming the primary international distributor of the Skiron™ laser produced by Kreon. The Skiron laser is a compact scanning attachment designed specifically for MicroScribe 6DoF digitizers. In combination, the devices create an inexpensive and compact, yet very effective alternative to much more expensive non-contact data collection products.

Beyond the specific offerings of Revware, there are more than 50 commercially available products that directly support MicroScribe digitizers and untold numbers of proprietary products
that integrate the device in manufacturing, design, research, medical, and a wide range of other applications.
